It's Minshew Mania in Jacksonville. Too bad they spent all that money on Nick Foles.

Miami Dolphins 0-2 (+3) @ Jacksonville Jaguars 1-1 (48.5): Jaguars 28-23

Thursday, 8:20 PM, TIAA Bank Stadium, Jacksonville, FL (Weather: 20% rain; high 70s)

Keys: It’s a TNF battle in Florida, the state that reminds us of anything but football and sunshine these days. It’s also a battle of two mediocre football teams, one led by a guy that’s blowing our minds in Gardner Minshew and one that has occasionally blown our minds in the past in Ryan Fitzpatrick. Truth be told these are two decent teams. The Jaguars have played much better than expected and faced solid competition (IND; TEN); the same could be said about the Dolphins, but more so referencing the solid competition (BUF; NE) more so than exceeding expectations. I’m a little surprised the Dolphins are getting three points on the road, because they’re worse than Jacksonville on paper and they’re even worse in reality. The opening line suggests an even match, but I don’t buy it; even the shakeup at center shouldn’t be much of an issue for the Jaguars. Miami could have trouble against the Jaguars defensive front, and the Jaguars offensive weapons have been playing well, not to mention Minshew, who’s already thrown six TDs (and two INTs). Throw a few bucks on that over, too.

Chicago Bears 2-0 (+3) @ Atlanta Falcons 1-1 (47.5): Falcons 28-24

Sunday, 1:00 PM, Mercedes Benz Stadium, Atlanta, GA (Weather: Indoors)

Keys: The Bears are 2-0, and have played relatively well, but let’s be honest, the competition hasn’t been all-world (DET; NYG), while the Falcons have faced the Seahawks and just last week v. Dallas became the first team in 441 games of NFL history to lose despite scoring 39 points and not committing a TO. The Bears can’t score enough points to keep pace with the Falcons at home and that’s pretty much it.

Los Angeles Rams 2-0 (+2.5) @ *Buffalo Bills 2-0 (46.5): Bills 24-21

Sunday, 1:00 PM, New Era Stadium, Buffalo, NY (Weather: Sunny; low 80s)

Keys: I’m nervous about making this one of PFM’s Top 5 locks of the week, because this Bills offense is rolling, but this Rams defense is gelling by the week, and their strong secondary backs the best defensive player in the NFL in defensive linemen Aaron Donald. Josh Allen might not get loose, and if he does, he should be well covered. The Bills running game could get loose, but Donald can blow anything up. No, this game comes down to the Bills defense, which has been even more impressive than the offense, although expected, and should out-match a nearly as impressive Rams offense.

Washington Football Team 1-1 (+7) @ Cleveland Browns 1-1 (45): Browns 26-20

Sunday, 1:00 PM, First Energy Stadium, Cleveland, OH (Weather: Sunny; low 80s)

Keys: The WFT offense won’t be scoring much Sunday so it’s really just up to the Browns offense to score enough points against a solid Washington defense. Is that sound enough analysis? The Browns could have trouble going right, so they might attack Odell Beckham Jr.’s side with some fierceness to not only take advantage of Washington’s weak side, but also to continue a ridiculous trend to keep him happy.

Tennessee Titans 2-0 (-2.5) @ Minnesota Vikings 0-2 (49): Titans 24-21

Sunday, 1:00 PM, US Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, MN (Weather: Indoors)

Keys: The Vikings defense is no longer formidable and the offense is too inconsistent to beat the Titans, who despite having an easier schedule thus far, are nearly three-point favorites on the road because of the former. I’m not quite sure why the O/U is so high, as these two ground attacks should chew the clock, but my O/U track record thus far didn’t warrant a Top 5 lock of the week.

Las Vegas Raiders 2-0 (+5.5) @ New England Patriots 1-1 (47.5): Patriots 22-20

Sunday, 1:00 PM, Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, MA (Weather: Partly Sunny; high 70s)

Keys: The Patriots came up a few yards short of starting 2-0 last week, and the Raiders are really banged up, but the Patriots strongest aspect this season has been their running game and they’ll be without center David Andrews Sunday, so no matter what match-up you want to key in on 5.5 points seems like a stretch.

San Francisco 1-1 (-3.5) @ New York Giants 0-2 (41.5): 49ers 23-17

Sunday, 1:00 PM, MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ (Weather: Partly Sunny; high 70s)

Keys: The 49ers went from Super Bowl contenders to #1 draft pick contenders overnight after last week’s fate of attrition. San Francisco was already without the league's best TE and now they’re without the league’s best pass rusher, not to mention several other key players, including QB Jimmy Garoppolo. So how are they 3.5-point favorites on the road for an intercontinental 10am game? The Giants were that bad with Saquon Barkley, and now he’s gone for the season, too.

Cincinnati Bengals 0-2 (+4.5) @ Philadelphia Eagles 0-2 (47.5): Eagles 24-23

Sunday, 1:00 PM, Lincoln Financial Stadium, Philadelphia, PA (Weather: 70% rain; high 60s)

Keys: Both of these teams were filled with promise entering 2020, but only one expected to struggle. These two teams seem to be going in opposite directions, but stumbling just the same. The Bengals have shown sparks on defense and offense, but have sputtered in both games. The Eagles are banged up already, both physically and mentally, and Carson Wentz’s FCS is really beginning to show. I suppose the Eagles are favored because they’re home and angry, but Philadelphia has been outscored 64-19 since the end of the first half against Washington Week 1, so I’m leaning towards the rookie Joe Burrow to cover this one.

Houston Texans 0-2 (+4) @ Pittsburgh Steelers 2-0 (45): Steelers 27-24

Sunday, 1:00 PM, Heinz Field, Pittsburgh, PA (Weather: Partly sunny; low 80s)

Keys: Deshaun Watson is the victim of giant holes in his offensive line that force him to scramble before making his first read on nearly every snap, and he doesn’t have Deandre Hopkins to bail him out anymore, so do we really expect anything different this week against arguably the best defensive line in the NFL? Perhaps. The Texans have played the toughest schedule by a long shot so far this season (BAL; KC), which is why they’re ranking out as one of the worst teams in the NFL through two weeks. The Steelers have had things relatively easy, but personnel tells the story here. There will be too much Watt-age (sorry) Sunday, and someone will make the big play to impress their sibling, but who will it be? Likely TJ the Younger, who has more help and has been much better anyway. Houston’s inexperienced LBs won’t help that second level much, so you can expect the Steelers to outpace the Texans, who will be running for their lives all day, and by “Texans” and “their” I mean Watson. They say money buys you happiness...

New York Jets 0-2 (+11.5)* @ Indianapolis Colts 1-1 (44): Colts 23-17

Sunday, 4:05 PM, Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, IN (Weather Indoors)

Keys: This one is pretty simple. The Colts have largely underachieved in 2020 and I put the blame squarely on the shoulders of the guy responsible for most of San Diego’s underachieving all those years: Philip “Cry Me A” Rivers. The Jets are flat out one of the worst teams in the NFL, coached by the most miserable human being in football this side of Todd Haley and Jay Cutler, so why would they be a Top 5 lock of the week? 11.5 points is ridiculous in almost NFL game, and the Colts haven’t played well enough to be favorites by even half that amount.

Carolina Panthers 0-2 (+6.5) @ Los Angeles Chargers 1-1 (43.5): Chargers 26-16

Sunday, 4:05 PM, SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, CA (Weather: Indoors)

Keys: Another game review, another star player out for the season. With Christian McCaffery gone for 2020 the Panthers can pack it up, because they weren’t winning the NFC South anyway, and now their chances of securing that ridiculous extra playoff spot have all but disappeared. Speaking of injured players, is the Chargers medical staff serious? They punctured Tyrod Taylor’s lung injecting a shot into his ribs? Who the hell runs the show there, Dr. Nick??? There are easier ways to give up on Taylor like so many foolish teams have before Los Angeles, but this is taking things to new heights. The rookie Justin Herbert will start again in Taylor’s stead, but unlike last week, he’ll have more than 30 minutes to prepare and won’t be facing the Kansas City Chiefs, as the Run CMC-less Panthers have given up 32.5 ppg so far this season and won’t be scoring at nearly the same pace with McCaffery, although that wasn’t much, either (23.5 ppg).

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 1-1 (-5.5) @ Denver Broncos 0-2 (43): Buccaneers 27-20

Sunday, 4:25 PM, Mile High Stadium, Denver, CO (Weather: Partly cloudy; high 60s)

Keys: The Golden Boy doesn’t fair well in Denver, but there’s no Von Miller to “chase” him. There’s also no Drew Lock, Davontae Harris, and there might be any Philip Lindsey or Jerry Jeudy, so the only thing Tom Brady might have to worry about Sunday is the thin air and his shaky history at Mile High Stadium.

Detroit Lions 0-2 (+5.5) @ Arizona Cardinals 2-0 (55.5): Cardinals 31-20

Sunday, 4:25 PM, Univ. of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, AZ (Weather: Indoors)

Keys: I’m sick of even analyzing the Detroit Lions. Suffice it to say I’ll be shocked if the Cardinals don’t cover these 5.5 points at home as Kyler Murray builds his MVP campaign. These teams average 49 ppg and give up an average of 51.5 ppg so I’m not sure how this O/U opened so high (lowest opening line was 51.5) and immediately settled at 55.5. The under almost made my Top 5 locks of the week, although my Top 5 record so far in 2020 is Lions-ish at best.

Dallas Cowboys 1-1 (+5) @ Seattle Seahawks 2-0 (57): Seahawks 30-24

Sunday, 4:25 PM, CenturyLink Field, Seattle, WA (Weather: Partly cloudy; mid-60s)

Keys: The Cowboys needed one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history to beat the Falcons last week after losing to the Rams Week 1 and Russell Wilson has two more incompletions so far this season than TD passes (11:9), hence the 5-point spread. On paper these two teams look like formidable opponents, but in reality, the Cowboys are wildly inconsistent, largely underachieving and have still refused to pay their supposed franchise QB, which has to tell you something. I’m reminded of Kirk Cousins, who despite also being a supposed franchise QB, was never paid by Washington, only to have Cousins end up with the Minnesota Vikings and a huge contract. How did that work out for Minnesota? Dak Prescott has tons of intangibles, and all signs point to him being a great human being, but the Cowboys don’t need that. The Cowboys need consistency and that lacks under Prescott’s leadership. It’s literally the opposite of the suddenly-swag-heavy Wilson, who could turn CenturyLink Field’s concession stand workers into All-Pro receivers while converting them to Christianity. Even Ezekiel Elliot will struggle Sunday, as the Seahawks LB core remains their only strong remnant from superior defenses past.

Green Bay Packers 2-0 (+3)* @ New Orleans Saints 1-1 (52.5)*: Packers 30-28

Sunday, 8:20 PM, Mercedes Benz Superdome, New Orleans, LA (Weather: Indoors)

Keys: Are they seriously giving Aaron Rodgers and the Packers three points on Turf Nation T5? While we’re at it, these teams score a combined 70 ppg while giving up an average of 29 ppg each, so is this O/U seriously at 52.5? Rarely, if ever, does one game warrant two Top-5 locks of the week, but I can’t help myself here. The questionable status of Davante Adams is not enough to give the Packers three points, nor is it enough to take 10 points off the game total for two teams that have combined with their opponents to average 62.5 points per game, and consistently through both weeks I might add. Taking the over is an even safer bet than taking the points, but I recommend doing both.

Kansas City Chiefs 2-0 (+3.5)* @ Baltimore Ravens 2-0 (54.5): Ravens 30-27

Monday, 8:15 PM, M&T Bank Stadium, Baltimore, MD (Weather: 40% rain; low 70s)

Keys: I don’t care how good the Ravens are, I’m never giving Patrick Mahomes 3.5 points. That’s like giving Jeff Bezos more money. That’s like giving Beyonce more bees. That’s like giving Andy Reid more food. They don’t need it. Both teams have beat up on the lowly Houston Texans by nearly identical scores, but the Chiefs needed OT to beat a Chargers team that had to start a rookie QB minutes before kickoff because the Chargers medical staff doesn’t know what they’re doing. Therein lies a key to the spread, in addition to a tale of two defenses – Baltimore’s is clearly superior. I can’t really imagine the Chiefs being brought to the brink two weeks in a row, but the scheduling gods can be cruel, and the Chargers are a stout defensive unit. Perhaps that plays into the Chiefs hands and they’re more prepared for the Ravens defense Monday night, but these Ravens seem like they’re on a mission and being home in the rain doesn’t hurt.

It's hard to believe its already d-or-die time for Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns, but here we are.

Cincinnati Bengals 0-1 (+6) @ Cleveland Browns 0-1 (43.5): Browns 23-21 Browns 35-30

Thursday, 8:20 PM, First Energy Stadium, Cleveland, OH (Weather: Gusty; high 50s)

Keys: It’s hard to believe the Browns are already facing a do-or-die situation Week 2, but it’s not hyperbole. It's not just a mental thing either, where, you know, a younger former Heisman trophy winner also drafted #1 in Bengals QB Joe Burrow comes into Cleveland from the other side of the same state and steals Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns thunder, causing Browns management and fan base alike to question their football existence. No, more realistically, the Browns can’t afford to start the season 0-2 in a division with the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers, especially if the Bengals were to somehow figure it out earlier than expected and already have a one-game advantage on Cleveland. The Bengals probably aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, but if Burrow quickly develops chemistry with AJ Green and Tyler Boyd, and Joe Mixon can stay healthy, the Browns could find themselves the 4th-best team in a four-team AFC North and quite irrelevant two years after drafting Mayfield and one after trading for Odell Beckham Jr. Unless Cleveland can turn this around at home on the short week they might become bigger fools than Progressive Insurance, so look for them to do just that, but look for Cincinnati to cover.

The Browns put their offensive woes to rest for a week, but Cleveland fans should be more concerned with a defense that gave up 30 points to the Bengals. It could be argued that Joe Burrow outplayed Baker Mayfield, or that the Bengals outside weapons outplayed the Browns, or you could simply point to the Browns assuming they had already won the game, which the ATLvDAL game will make them rethink going forward, but at the end of the day all that matters is the Bengals covered.

New York Giants 0-1 (+5) @ Chicago Bears 1-0 (42): Bears 23-17 Bears 17-13

Sunday, 1:00 PM, Soldier Field, Chicago, IL (Weather: Sunny; high 60s)

Keys: The Giants were throttled by the best defense in the NFL last week, while the Bears had to come from behind late in the game to beat the woeful Detroit Lions. In other words, neither team showed us much, because the Bears defense are no Steelers defense, except Chicago does have two of the best front seven defenders in all of the NFL in Khalil Mack and Akiem Hicks. Therein lies the key to the game: this Giants offensive line is abysmal and can’t help Saquon Barkley or Daniel Jones, at least not Sunday, and while Giants fans could argue the same thing from their perspective regarding the Bears offensive line, the Giants defensive front of Lorenzo Carter, Dexter Lawrence and Dalvin Tomlinson isn’t quite the same.

Let's just say both RBs were injured during this game, some repeatedly, and Saqoun Barkley was lost for the season to a torn ACL. As if things couldn't get any worse, I missed another sweep by one point. The Bears are that terrible.

Atlanta Falcons 0-1 (+4.5) @ Dallas Cowboys 0-1 (53.5): Cowboys 28-27 Cowboys 40-39

Sunday, 1:00 PM, AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX (Weather: Indoors)

Keys: The Cowboys laid an egg Sunday night in prime time, partly because the Rams defense stepped up in their new empty home, but more so because the Cowboys are already beat up and overrated. Dallas lost Leighton Vander Esch indefinitely Week 1 and Tyron Smith is questionable after Dallas already lost Sean Lee and La’el Collins to the IR in training camp. Amari Cooper is also questionable, which doesn’t bode well for Dak Prescott, who looked mediocre at best against what many consider to be a mediocre Rams defense. The Falcons are the Falcons, so expect them to either fall flat on their faces or take advantage of the turf and a decimated LB core and smoke the Cowboys off the field. Las Vegas obviously sees the former. I see the Falcons covering because the Cowboys already have issues.

The miraculous comeback. The 3% chance of recovering the onside kick. The 0.1% chance of Dallas winning the game. The fact that the Falcons became the first team in 441 games to lose while scoring 39 points and not committing a TO. It all pales in comparison to PFM sweeping the game.

Detroit Lions 0-1 (+6.5) @ Green Bay Packers 1-0 (49.5)*: Packers 31-24 Packers 42-21

Sunday, 1:00 PM, Lambeau Field, Green Bay, WI (Weather: Mostly sunny; low 80s)

Keys: Aaron Rodgers seems to be back in canon form, Davante Adams is healthy and the it’ll be a balmy 68º with the wind blowing from the south with Matthew Stafford & Co. on the other side of the field. In other words this O/U is toast. This could be my top lock of the week, because the way Rodgers played last week combined with these two mediocre defenses, we could approach that O/U by halftime.

Another sweep for PFM; hopefully you cashed in. I almost wrote that the Packers would almost hit the over by themselves and not that the game could hit the over by halftime. I also wish I hadn't jinxed Davante Adams. Don't yell at me, he's on my fantasy team, too.

Jacksonville Jaguars 1-0 (-4) @ Tennessee Titans 1-0 (43.5): Titans 28-20 Titans 33-30

Sunday, 1:00 PM, Nissan Stadium, Nashville, TN (Weather: Sunny; low 80s)

Keys: The eight-point underdog Jaguars surprised a lot of people last week, but it was the hyper-efficient Gardner Minshew and the anything-but-efficient Philip Rivers more than anything else. Losing Marlon Mack for the season almost instantly didn’t help. The Titans didn’t look great, certainly not AFC Championship form, but they left 10 points on the board due to Stephen Gostkowski’s missing confidence, so 26-14 looks better than the actual 16-14 game it seems they squeaked out in Denver. Minshew is facing a better defense on the road and the Titans are facing a much easier run defense, so if Derrick Henry can get going and open up play action it’ll be lights out for Jacksonville.

Holy Minshew. The Jaguars tied the game with 7:25 in the 4th quarter after being down 30-17 on the arm of the guy that should have Nick Foles' money, but Mustache Minshew (339 passing yards; 3 TDs) also threw two INTs, so maybe the comeback wouldn't have been necessary if not for Gardner. Life, eh?

Minnesota Vikings 0-1 (+3) @ Indianapolis Colts 0-1 (48.5): Colts 27-23 Colts 28-11

Sunday, 1:00 PM, Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, IN (Weather Indoors)

Keys: A tale of two teams with high hopes coming into the season in danger of starting the season the dreaded 0-2 and having your season almost over before it begins. The Vikings defense looks nothing like the old squad as the offense continues to sputter in key moments, while the heavily-favored Colts lost to the Jaguars by a TD despite nearly doubling their production. The loss of Marlon Mack isn’t a death sentence for the Colts, and the Indianapolis offensive line should manhandle this Jaguars front four, so look for Indianapolis to hit the turf running.

The Vikings are in trouble.

Buffalo Bills 1-0 (-5.5) @ Miami Dolphins 0-1 (40.5): Buffalo 23-17 Bills 31-28

Sunday, 1:00 PM, Hard Rock Stadium, Miami, FL (Weather: 50% storms; high 80s)

Keys: They’ve already held the Super Bowl parade in Buffalo, partly because their fans are that thirsty and partly because the snow doesn’t melt until June so they wanted to get ahead of it. In all seriousness the Bills look good – better than they’ve looked in two decades. Josh Allen is only the 2nd QB in NFL history to start his career with 30+ passing TDs and 15+ rushing TDs, which continued Week 1, and Tre’Davious White calmed the nerves of 4 million greater Erie County/Toronto area Bills fans by signing an extension two weeks ago that’ll keep him ball-hawking in Buffalo for years to come. The Bills are mudders and built for the storm about to hit Miami Sunday, so we can make any Dolphins analyses we want, but the truth is, these aren’t your older brother’s Bills.

Things were going so well in the first half before the Dolphins messed things up and outscored Bills 18-15 in the second half, which not only screwed up the Bills cover, but destroyed the under. Josh Allen's career day (417 passing yards; 4 TDs) got the job done for the Bills, but the Bills defense didn't get the job done for PFM.

San Francisco 49ers 0-1 (-7) @ New York Jets 0-1 (41.5): 49ers 24-13 49ers 31-13

Sunday, 1:00 PM, MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ (Weather: Sunny; low 60s)

Keys: The 49ers already have issues at CB (Richard Sherman & Jason Verrett), TE (George Kittle) and QB (Jimmy Garappolo...jk), but their issues pale in comparison to woes facing the New York Jets. Adam Gase is the most over-hyped coach since the last young white guy that didn’t deserve the chance they got over myriad other qualified coaches. How effective is this Rooney Rule anyway? Gase is destroying the wasn’t-that-promising-anyway career of Sam Darnold and Le’Veon Bell just hates the dude. Bell looks washed up, but a small dip looks like a cliff-dive under Gase, and the way to squeeze the remaining juice out of Bell isn’t by giving him weird looks and passive-aggressively benching him. Gase must have some Putin-level blackmail on Woody Johnson or else why the hell is he still coaching the Jets? Is the baby powder deadly and Gase knows it?? Did Gase cry in the bathtub while using the no-tears shampoo??? WHAT DOES HE KNOW ABOUT WOODY?!?!

The 49ers won the battle, but lost the war. Several key players could potentially miss time (Jimmy Garoppolo; Raheem Mostert) or the entire season (Nick Bosa; Solomon Thomas) in addition to key injuries already plaguing the 49ers (George Kittle). The game still played out as expected due to the Jets ineptitude, although the decimated 49ers still managed to score enough points to blow the under and ruin the sweep. Still nailed the Jets score. <pats back>

Los Angeles Rams 1-0 *(+1) @ Philadelphia Eagles 0-1 (45.5): Rams 24-23 Rams 37-19

Sunday, 1:00 PM, Lincoln Financial Stadium, Philadelphia, PA (Weather: Sunny; low 60s)

Keys: Speaking of disappointments, I offer Exhibits K & L (If you’re keeping track that mean there are ten other disappointing teams in just the eight games I’ve analyzed this week). The winners of last week’s DALvLAR game was Sean McVay, who brilliantly slowed down the game and simply kept the ball from the Cowboys for nearly 36 minutes, and of course Aaron Donald, destroyer of worlds. The Rams didn’t produce any fireworks on opening night, but the Eagles did everything they could to give the game to Washington last week, including an abysmal 2nd-half performance by Carson Wetnz, so I’d say any bet where the Rams simply have win or even just tie seems like a great bet to me.

PFM took it on the chin with the Top 5 picks again in Week 2, but this was one of the two Top 5 picks PFM got right (i.e. DETvGB over) and one of the four PFM sweeps, but more because the Rams took it to the Eagles supposed solid defense more then anything else. Carson Wentz (2 INTs) looks bad, which is probably causing some seriously comical issues in the locker room for anyone not associated with the club as employees or fans. Some of us had the Eagles penciled in as NFC sleepers. That bird has likely flown.

Denver Broncos 0-1 (+8) @ Pittsburgh Steelers 1-0 (40): Steelers 23-16 Steelers 26-21

Sunday, 1:00 PM, Heinz Field, Pittsburgh, PA (Weather: Sunny; high 60s)

Keys: This is a battle of two good defenses; OK, one good defense and one great defense. The Steelers didn’t have much of a test v. the Giants, but Denver isn’t that much better offensively, especially after the injury to Phillip Lindsay. The Steelers are home with an elite defensive front attacking a second-year QB whose most electrifying weapon is an exceptional rookie in mistake-prone Jerry Jeudy, so it doesn’t look good for the Broncos heading into Week 2.

The Broncos lost Drew Lock early in the game and Jerry Jeudy late and still managed to keep pace with the Steelers, despite trailing Pittsburgh 17-6 with eight minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter, ruining our chance at the under.

Carolina Panthers 0-1 *(+8.5) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers 0-1 (47.5): Panthers 26-24 Buccaneers 31-17

Sunday, 1:00 PM, Raymond James Stadium, Tampa Bay, FL (Weather: 40% storms; high 80s)

Keys: The focus all week has been the undressing of the infallible Tom Brady by the apparently out-of-pocket Bruce Arians. How quickly people forget Arians is the head coach and Brady is the dude who just got there, and by all expert accounts, isn’t really going to do anything more for them then Jameis Winston did. The Buccaneers offensive line is worse then New England’s from a year ago, the running game is the same if not worse than Brady was used to, and despite all the talent at wide out and TE, it’s never amounted to anything. As far as Arians goes, have we already forgotten “No risk it no biscuit”? That’s an Arians special, so wouldn’t that partially explain a QB that threw 30 INTs last year? So why does Winston get tossed into the trash? Winston certainly seemed like a fine fit, and it was his team. Brady went from the tightest naval ship in the NFL to a loosey-goosey pontoon boat while trading little underachieving playbook nerds for mercurial talents that might run the wrong patterns in key moments. Don’t expect this miracle turnaround Las Vegas has laid out and the public has bet up, because the conditions are rife for a ground-pounder, not to mention ducks, Chris Godwin isn’t even playing, and the Buccaneers strong defensive front could be neutralized by the Panthers offensive line.

This one of the few games I'd like to have back this week, although a late Leonard Fournette TD sealed the over for PFM. Tom Brady looked bad (217 passing yards; 1 TD; 1 INT), but Teddy Bridgewater was worse (2 INTs) and the Panthers added injury to insult losing Christian McCaffrey (51 rushing yards; 2 TDs) indefinitely to an ankle injury.

Washington Football Team 1-0 (+7) @ Arizona Cardinals 1-0 (46.5): 28-20 Cardinals 30-15

Sunday, 4:05 PM, Univ. of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, AZ (Weather: Indoors)

Keys: The Football Team looked like things were going as expected until Carson Wentz turned into a pumpkin and Washington scored 27-unanswered 2nd half points to steal the win. The Cardinals kept up with the San Francisco 49ers all game and then took it to the 49ers in their own house, scoring 14 4th-quarter points, including a brilliant 22-yard scamper by Kyler Murray. Washington doesn’t even have any stars to go down early and make the game easier for Arizona, and Murray largely neutralizes any offensive line issues, so expect the Cardinals to dominate this game.

Kyler Murray (353 total yards; 3 total TDs; 1 INT) started his case to become the third second-year QB in a row to win MVP (Patrick Mahomes; Lamar Jackson) trashing the Football Team at home, leading 27-3 with 14 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter. Another game, another over barely missed.

Kansas City Chiefs 1-0 (-9) @ Los Angeles Chargers 1-0 (47)*: Chiefs 26-23 Chiefs 23-20 OT

Sunday, 4:25 PM, SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, CA (Weather: Indoors)

Keys: Both teams were up to their old ways Week 1, with the Chiefs thoroughly dominating the Houston Texans while the Chargers eked out an uninspired “win” against a Cincinnati Bengals team that farted on three chances to take the lead as the game ended, then missed a 21-yard FG to tie it. The Chargers are loaded on offense, they just need to figure it out with new QB Tyrod Taylor, but they’re obviously not more talented than the mighty Chiefs, and while the Chargers defense is considerably better than Kansas City’s, especially along the defensive front, it’s hard to bet against Patrick Mahomes. But that doesn’t mean it’s hard to bet against those nine points, especially with Los Angeles trying to make a statement in their new home, fans or not.

The NFL world was shocked to see Tyrod Taylor benched with a chest injury, but not as shocked as the Chiefs, who clearly had to scramble to game plan against the rookie Justin Herbert, who lit the Chiefs defense up for 311 passing yards and two total TDs, although his INT was a costly one. Patrick Mahomes (356 total yards; 2 TDs) came to the rescue again, getting Harrison Butler in position twice, first to kick the 30-yard FG to tie the game as time expired, then to kick the 58-yard game winner with fewer than two minutes remaining in OT. That's right, OT, and the game still didn't hit the over.

Baltimore Ravens 1-0 (-7.5) @ Houston Texans 0-1 (50)*: Ravens 31-23 Ravens 33-16

Sunday, 4:25 PM, NRG Stadium, Houston, TX (Weather: Indoors)

Keys: I took it on the chin betting O/Us last week so it’s only fitting I chose three top five pick using the O/U. The Texans clearly have to figure out life after Deandre Hopkins, but if anyone can figure it out it’s the dynamic Deshaun Watson, outplayed by few QBs these days, except for the guy who just happens to be on the other side of the field. Suffice it to say I don’t expect the Texans to beat the Ravens Sunday, but Baltimore could score 35 points themselves; do we really think Watson, Brandin Cooks, Will Fuller and David Johnson will be held to fewer than two TDs? I didn’t think so.

AAARRRGGGHHH!!! Thanks for proving me right Deshaun Watson & Co. by scoring more than two TDs, which one could still argue only equaled my projected outcome. Either way I missed the over again as the Texans managed a measly -3 yards on their final drive. If only these guys thought about the gamblers...more often.

New England Patriots 1-0 (+4) @ Seattle Seahawks 1-0 (44.5): Seahawks 24-21 Seahawks 35-30

Sunday, 8:20 PM, CenturyLink Field, Seattle, WA (Weather: Clearing; mid-60s)

Keys: The Patriots have morphed into a college team from the mid-90s behind a solid offensive line and QB Cam Newton, who carried the ball 15 times last week, the second most carries in his career. The Patriots defense also remains solid, with an elite secondary capable of shutting down Seattle’s outside weapons. So the game comes down to whether New England can run on Bobby Wagner and/or if Bill Belichick can come up with a plan to slow down Russell Wilson, who week after week continues to prove he’s actually the best overall QB in the NFL. Get used to the Patriots being dogs once in a while, especially on the road against QBs like Russell Wilson, so perhaps this is a chance to make some money, whether New England wins or not.

Cam Newton had the most passing yards since the first two games of his rookie year (397) and he scored two more rushing TDs, but his last attempt was thwarted as time expired and the Patriots lost what indeed turned out to be the Sunday Game of the Week. Russell Wilson (5 TDs) placed the ball in impossible places for the Patriots elite secondary to defend, and both teams, known as solid to elite defenses depending on which pundit you talk believe, gave up nearly 900 total yards of offense and 65 points.

New Orleans Saints 1-0 (-5.5) @ Las Vegas Raiders 1-0 (48.5): Saints 30-20 Raiders 34-24

Monday, 8:15 PM, Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas, NV (Weather: Indoors)

Keys: If a team moves from Oakland to Las Vegas and builds a giant new stadium, but there are no fans inside, does it make a noise? Well, technically yes, because they’ll be pumping in artificial noise. The moment is finally here. Las Vegas. NFL. New team. New city. New stadium. Party. Gambling. And no fans. Now we also enter the era of visiting teams coming to Las Vegas and being lured by the lights, we’ll call it, and paying the next-day price. Perhaps we’re not quite there with Las Vegas essentially at half-capacity, and I’m not sure it would matter much against these Saints anyway. New Orleans has it’s own distractions, and more to the point, the Saints are the better team. Until Las Vegas returns to normal the city and the new stadium alike don’t offer much of an advantage.

The clearly aging Drew Brees (312 passing yards; 1 TD; 1 INT) kept the Saints in the game at 24-17 midway through the 3rd quarter, but the Raiders took over from that point in all three phases of the game (Derek Carr TD; Josh Jacobs TD; Daniel Carlson FG) and sealed the Raiders first victory in their new city and stadium.
