 100th NFL Season Preview

Welcome back to the 2019 NFL season and the 100th year of the National Football League! Despite domestic violence issues, CTE conspiracies, the disintegration of youth football and the sudden retirement of Andrew Luck the NFL continues to be as strong as ever. What makes the NFL so popular?

Is it the ageless Tom Brady and the New England Patriots spawning hope of their demise from every region of the country outside of New England? Maybe fans in Miami, Buffalo or half of the Meadowlands foolishly think it's their year to win the AFC East.

Maybe everyone wants to see Odell Beckham Jr. urinate on a goal post in Cleveland before everyone stops paying attention to the Browns again. Cincinnati has nothing else to look forward to while getting punched around in the AFC North. Ravens fans think Lamar Jackson is the next Michael Vick, and they'll be right all the way up to his inevitable injury. What will the Pittsburgh Steelers look like now that Big Ben is exposed?

Speaking of "Killer Bs", how long before Antonio Brown takes the rest of the Oakland Raiders soul? The Denver Broncos brought Joe Flacco to the AFC West in an ill-advised attempt to hide their QB issues. The Los Angeles Chargers might be the most talented team in the NFL for the Xth year in a row, but they can't even stay healthy long enough for people to remember they don't play in San Diego anymore. The Kansas City Chiefs are the world's greatest hope of dethroning Bill Belichick & Tom Brady and half the team could be in jail by mid-season.

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck just retired suddenly, the Houston Texans Lamar Miller already tore his ACL as Jadeveon Clowney moves to Seattle, everyone is shocked the Jacksonville Jaguars haven't moved to London yet and Marcus Mariota won't even start for the Tennessee Titans. So we know the NFL's 100th season isn't hinging on the AFC South.

People certainly want to see the Dallas Cowboys implode and Ezekiel Elliot's summer-long holdout provided all the entertainment the NFL needed this off-season. Can Carson Wentz even stay healthy enough for the Nick Foles-less Philadelphia Eagles? The Washington Football Team remains disgraceful, while the New York Giants erroneously drafted an Eli Manning clone with the 6th pick in the 2019 draft. The NFC East could be the reason people watch the NFL.

The NFC North has been putting people to sleep for decades so that's not the answer.

The NFC South will either finish 32-32 or send a 13-3 team to the Super Bowl to get destroyed. Besides, do New Orleans Saints fans even watch football anymore? The NFL's popularity can't lie down south.

The NFC West provides the youth to ring in a new 100 years of NFL football. Really? The Seattle Seahawks have literally reinvented themselves during Russell Wilson's prime. The San Fransisco 49ers gave franchise QB Jimmy Garoppolo $135M just to see him foolishly injure his knee and struggle to get back to form. The LA Rams  did the same thing with their franchise RB Todd Gurley and had to bring in an overweight guy off the street to play for them in Super Bowl LIII. The Arizona Cardinals spent the #1 pick on a 5'9" dual threat QB in Kyler Murray and seem to have generated more questions for their first year mediocre college coach than scrimmage yards.

In other words, the success of the 100th season of the National Football League largely hinges on the demise of Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots, Odell Beckham Jr. and the Cleveland Browns, Antonio Brown and the Oakland Raiders, Big Ben and the Pittsburgh Steelers, Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, Eli Manning and the New York Giants, Carson Wentz and the Philadelphia Eagles, Le'Veon Bell and the New York Jets, Andrew Luck and his new XFL team, and Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals.

We watch the NFL to see other people fail, right? Doesn't it mean more to us to see our enemies fail rather than see our idols succeed? It sure seems that way. I've heard more joy in the voices of Eagles fans talking about Ezekiel Elliot holding out than the prospects of winning another Super Bowl. I've witnessed AFC fans wishing for Tom Brady to be embarrassed in another Super Bowl rather than wishing for their team to make it to one instead. Speaking of the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles, those are your Super Bowl 54 teams in a rematch of Super Bowl 52. People love to hate and that's what generates interest in the NFL, right? WRONG!
