Last season PFM began the < Drake voice > "TOP 5 TOP 5 TOP 5" segment, where PFM chooses their Top 5 Betting Games of the Week using either the spread OR O/U (denoted by an asterisk *). Roll with our Top 5 and watch the money pile up all season!

Good luck at the window this season and enjoy the 2020 NFL season whiles it lasts, because with the ways things are going it won't be long!

Drafting a QB early this April seems to have got Aaron Rodgers back to his old ways, throwing 20 TDs and only two INTs through seven games.

Green Bay Packers 5-2 (-5.5) @ San Francisco 49ers 4-4 (50.5): Packers 27-21

Sunday, 8:20 PM, Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, CA (Weather: Clear; mid-60s)

Keys: The 49ers were just getting back in rhythm before they lost Jimmy Garoppolo and George Kittle again last week, and Kittle isn’t coming back anytime soon. The Packers are dealing with their own attrition, losing both Aaron Jones for weeks and now his backup Jamal Williams. That hasn’t slowed the other Aaron, Aaron Rodgers (20 TDs; 2 INTs) or his top target, Davante Adams (504 receiving yards; 7 TDs despite missing time), but it’ll be a little harder to fake the hand off to a third-string RB assuming Jones (Q) can’t go. The Packers are fraudulent to some degree, with a defense that gives up nearly as many points and yards as the Packers offense scores, and Green Bay has the sixth-worst point differential of any winning team (+32 or 4.6 ppg); in fact, the 49ers have a better point differential at 4-4. However, Bill Parcells said it best, “The best ability is availability”, and many of the 49ers top weapons on both sides of the ball are simply unavailable.

Denver Broncos 3-4 *(+4) @ Atlanta Falcons 2-6 (50): Falcons 27-24

Sunday, 1:00 PM, Mercedes Benz Stadium, Atlanta, GA (Weather: Indoors)

Keys: The Broncos have been doing the opposite of the Falcons lately, pulling wins from beyond what seemed like their week-to-week graves, while the Falcons seem to find new ways to blow giant leads to lose games week-to-week. You don’t have to dig too deep to find ways to justify taking the points here.

Seattle’s Seahawks 6-1 (-3) @ Buffalo Bills 6-2 (55): Seahawks 31-27

Sunday, 1:00 PM, New Era Stadium, Buffalo, NY (Weather: Sunny; low 60s)

Keys: The 6-2 Bills (-1 point) are part of a three-team club with winning records and negative point differentials, only surpassed by the 4-3 Raiders (-16 points) and the 5-3 Browns (-31 points). The Bills also have the best record of those three teams, but all is not well upstate. Josh Allen went from the MVP conversation to pundits again questioning his long-term effectiveness. Considering the Bills defense is no longer worth a mention, the Bills offense, the reason for their record, needs to get back on track to beat a similar, but even more impressive Seahawks team. Speaking of forgotten once-dominant defenses, the Seahawks and Bills should have no trouble surpassing a relatively high O/U.

Chicago Bears 5-3 (+6) @ Tennessee Titans 5-2 *(46.5): Titans 27-20

Sunday, 1:00 PM, Nissan Stadium, Nashville, TN (Weather: Sunny; low 80s)

Keys: The Titans have lost two straight after starting the season 5-0 and the Bears couldn’t be a better team to get on track against. The Bears allow the 10th most rushing yards in the league and if anyone can chug in the heat it’s Derrick Henry. The Titans get back on track while the Bears slip closer to their preseason presumed mean.

Baltimore Ravens 5-2 (-1.5) @ Indianapolis Colts 5-2 (47.5): Ravens 24-23

Sunday, 1:00 PM, Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, IN (Weather Indoors)

Keys: It doesn’t get much better than this mid-season match up. Both teams come in 5-2, both teams possess top offenses and defenses, both teams have point differentials of 8.9 (IND) and 10.1 (BAL) ppg, and the Ravens are undefeated on the road while the Colts are undefeated at home. Baltimore didn’t do so well against the division rival Pittsburgh Steelers after their bye week, and the Colts aren’t any easier of a defensive test, as they stuff the run as well as anyone. Lucky for the Ravens, they’re not quite as sack happy as the Steelers, although conversely, the Ravens (5th sacks) might have trouble getting to Philip Rivers as the Colts allow the fewest sacks in the league.

Carolina Panthers 3-5 (+10.5) @ Kansas City Chiefs 7-1 (52.5): Chiefs 31-20

Sunday, 1:00 PM, Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, MO (Weather: Sunny; mid-70s)

Keys: The Chiefs hit a few road bumps a quarter way through the season, but have since throttled two bad teams (DEN; NYJ) to regain their swagger. The Panthers, on the other hand, were making the best of a seemingly lost season before losing three straight, including games to the worst team with a winning record in the Chicago Bears and the Atlanta Falcons. The Chiefs should take care of business rather easily on what will seem like a summer day in Kansas City, but don’t be surprised if you sweat out the 10.5 points.

Detroit Lions 3-4 (+4) @ Minnesota Vikings 2-5 (52.5): Vikings 30-24

Sunday, 1:00 PM, US Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, MN (Weather: Indoors)

Keys: The Lions are running out of CBs and the Vikings just happen to have one of the best RBs in the NFL in Dalvin Cook (652 rushing yards; 5.34 ypc; 10 TDs) to help them set up the play action that will eventually run the Lions out of Minneapolis.

New York Giants 1-7 (+2.5) @ Washington Football Team 2-5 (42.5): Giants 21-20

Sunday, 1:00 PM, FedEx Field, Landover, MD (Weather: Sunny; low 70s)

Keys: There may be games with worse combined records Week 9, but few, if any, games are less compelling, even if you consider a win by the WFT and their claim to a piece of the NFC East compelling. As long as Daniel Jones keeps leading the Giants in INTs and rushing yards while the defense gives up nearly 25 ppg there’s not much hope for the Giants until the 2021 draft, assuming covid doesn’t ruin everything first. Then again, the Football Team is one drubbing of a wounded Dallas Cowboys from losing six straight after a Week 1 comeback win against the Philadelphia Eagles. In other words, take the 2.5 points.

Houston Texans 1-6 *(-7) @ Jacksonville Jaguars 1-6 (50.5): Texans 31-17

Sunday, 1:00 PM, TIAA Bank Stadium, Jacksonville, FL (Weather: 40% storms; low 80s)

Keys: Few teams have underachieved like the Texans in 2020, so seven points against any team seems like a stretch, especially between two divisional opponents that look eerily similar on paper. Except in this case against the equally-pathetic Jaguars, who won’t even have Minshew Mania to rely upon, instead handing the keys to rookie Jake Luton as the Oregon State product relieves an injured Gardner Minshew. Look for this game to end much like their Week 5 match up.

Las Vegas Raiders 4-3 *(+1) @ Los Angeles Chargers 2-5 (51.5): Raiders 26-24

Sunday, 4:05 PM, SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, CA (Weather: Indoors)

Keys: Fool me once, shame on the Chargers. Fool me five times and you can’t shame me enough. I’m running to the window to take the point and this battle-tested Raiders team.

Pittsburgh Steelers 7-1 (-14) @ Dallas Cowboys 2-6 (42): Steelers 35-10

Sunday, 4:25 PM, AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX (Weather: Indoors)

Keys: A 14-point spread with a predicted point total of 42 means Las Vegas thinks the Steelers will double up on the Cowboys, which given the fact the Steelers can make life a living hell for Ben DiNucci and Ezekiel Elliot is questionable, that’s not a bad assessment. Double-digit road favorites seems like a stay-away, but not for these Steelers and these Cowboys. As for the O/U, clearly the sharps don’t really see much of anything coming out of Dallas.

Miami Dolphins 4-3 (+4.5) @ Arizona Cardinals 5-2 (48.5): Cardinals 27-24

Sunday, 4:25 PM, Univ. of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, AZ (Weather: Indoors)

Keys: Both teams enter Week 9 riding high, winners of three straight games. The Cardinals just beat the Seahawks in OT before their bye week last week, which just happens to be the last team the Dolphins lost to (Week 4). Miami likely won’t force four first half Cardinals TOs like they did to the LA Rams last week, but they’ve been playing well. In fact, these teams match up well on paper, except Kyler Murray-led Arizona is much more explosive on offense, averaging nearly 100 more offensive yards per game, including over 60 more ypg on the ground.

New Orleans Saints 5-2 (+4) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers 6-2 *(50.5): Buccaneers 33-24

Sunday, 8:20 PM, Raymond James Stadium, Tampa Bay, FL (Weather: 30% storms; low 70s)

Keys: Hollywood couldn’t write a better script. Both teams are fighting for the NFC South, the Buccaneers are already a game behind the Saints after their Week 1 match up, and the game features the two oldest QBs in the league, both well over 40, who also just happen to be within a TD pass of each other and the all-time NFL record (Tom Brady: 561; Drew Brees: 560). Oh yeah, and Antonio Brown is back. Let’s talk about another potential locker room problem in Michael Thomas, who is questionable, but so is his return to the Saints in general. Even if Chris Godwin can’t go Antonio Brown will almost assuredly take his place and then some, for better or worse. If the weather plays a role the Saints may struggle to cover the four points, but if the weather holds out they have a chance, just not much of one to win the game.

New England Patriots 2-5 (-7) @ New York Jets 0-8 (42): Patriots 24-16

Monday, 8:15 PM, MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ (Weather: Calm; low 50s)

Keys: These teams have combined for 13 losses already in 2020 and haven’t won a game in one (NE) to ten months (NYJ). Both teams could be missing key players again, which is part of the reason both teams stink. I’ve never had less faith in a Patriots team covering seven points against a terrible Jets team, but that’s what it’s come to after the worst start to a Patriots season in 20 years. Tom Brady is having a season down in Tampa Bay, but before the Brady fans scream “Told yah so!’, let’s not forget covid has effected New England as much as any team in the league between opt-outs and delays. Cam Newton also went from his MVP version to the version that most teams passed on, despite the bargain.

Good luck at the window this season and enjoy the 2020 NFL season whiles it lasts, because with the ways things are going it won't be long!

One of the greatest WRs in the history of the game is watching his career slip away with these 1-6 Atlanta Falcons, who seem to have never recovered from Super Bowl LI.

Atlanta Falcons 1-6 (+3) @ Carolina Panthers 3-4 (49): Panthers 25-21 Falcons 25-17

Thursday, 8:20 PM, Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, NC (Weather: 50% rain; low 60s)

Keys: What am I reading here? Las Vegas thinks these teams are evenly-matched? They haven’t seen the Falcons comically squander several wins this season after holding large leads, leads deep in the game, or both? In the meantime, all the Panthers have done is managed to stay afloat after losing arguably the best RB in the NFL for the season. Let’s not forget the weather. The Falcons can struggle outside in general, let alone the wind and rain. But these are the feared TNF games, where seemingly anything can happen, and the scores are either wildly under or over the set O/U. Regardless, I’m never taking these Falcons on the road in the rain on a short week, and the over might be a stretch considering these teams like to throw and the conditions might not be permitting.

Another Thursday night, another awful Thursday night football game call for PFM.

New England Patriots 2-4 (+3.5) @ Buffalo Bills 5-2 (41.5): Bills 23-20 Bills 24-21

Sunday, 1:00 PM, New Era Stadium, Buffalo, NY (Weather: 80% rain w/ high winds; low 50s)

Keys: When was the last time these two teams were in this position, the early 90s? The Patriots have their worst record since the pre-Tom Brady days of 2000; the Bills have a few starts this good since their hey day over 25 years ago, but none of those teams felt like these Bills. Regardless, it all comes down to the weather Sunday, with driving rain and high winds and even higher wind gusts forecast, which will likely keep things on the ground. You might think that would favor the Patriots, but those running numbers might be a bit skewed from back in the pre-covid days of the Patriots 2020 season.

One of three games PFM nailed across the board in Week 8.

Tennessee Titans 5-1 (-5.5) v. Cincinnati Bengals 1-5-1 (53.5): Titans 28-27 Bengals 31-20

Sunday, 1:00 PM, Paul Brown Stadium, Cincinnati, OH (Weather: Partly Sunny; low 50s)

Keys: The Titans should have no trouble scoring on the Bengals, especially on the ground, so the question is, can the Titans stop rookie Joe Burrow and the Bengals, because save for a near shut out at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens the Bengals would be averaging close to 30 ppg themselves. The Titans are part of the cream of the AFC, but the Bengals might be the best one-win team in NFL history besides the Dallas Cowboys a few weeks ago. Don’t be surprised if Cincinnati covers the 5.5 points at home.

I told you not to sleep on the Bengals.

Las Vegas Raiders 3-3 (+2.5) @ Cleveland Browns 5-2 *(51): Browns 24-20 Raiders 16-6

Sunday, 1:00 PM, First Energy Stadium, Cleveland, OH (Weather: Partly 100% rain w/ high windy; low 50s)

Keys: This game will feature the week’s worst weather, which means the under could be a lock at 51. The Brown’s superior run game on both ends not only favors them in general, but certainly in the driving rain. Let’s not forget the Browns lost OBJ for the season, which will hamper their high-flying offense even more, although the Raiders certainly don’t want to hear about any attrition.

Apparently OJB's absence is having Randy Moss-level implications or the weather hurt the Browns more then the desert-dwelling Raiders, which is probably worse. The game also featured five FGs in the driving wind and rain. Go figure.

Indianapolis Colts 4-2 (-3) @ Detroit Lions 3-3 (50): Colts 28-23 Colts 41-21

Sunday, 1:00 PM, Ford Field, Detroit, MI (Weather: Indoors)

Keys: The Colts are one of the better teams in the league, specifically on defense, and especially against the pass, the one thing the Lions do well on offense. If the Colts can get the ground game going at all this could be a pretty easy cover.

Damn, Nyheim Hines, look at you! The Colts not only covered easily, they scored in chunks of 20 and 21, in the 2nd and 4th quarters, respectively, in which one of those quarters was enough to tie the Lions on its own.

Minnesota Vikings 1-5 (+6.5) @ Green Bay Packers 5-1 (51.5): Packers 35-24 Vikings 28-22

Sunday, 1:00 PM, Lambeau Field, Green Bay, WI (Weather: Windy; high 30s)

Keys: There are a few games not worth much analysis this week, and this is one of them. The Packers are home in cold, windy weather and the Vikings, not nearly as stout defensively and too used to the indoors, well, aren’t. With Dalvin Cook questionable and Aaron Rodgers firing on all cylinders, yes, save that game against the Buccaneers, even a TD seems safe here.

This is my weekly homer-backing-into-the-bush moment. The Vikings Cook-ed (Dalvin Cook 4 TOT TDs) and scored 21-unanswered points after the Packers took a 14-7 lead in the 2nd quarter and never looked back. A sack-fumble late in the 4th as the Packers attempted their comeback didn't help, either.

New York Jets 0-7 (+19.5) @ Kansas City Chiefs 6-1 (49): Chiefs 48-10 Chiefs 35-9

Sunday, 1:00 PM, Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, MO (Weather: Sunny; low 50s)

Keys: Normally I’d say this is a no-brainer, and not even in the way you’re probably thinking, but the Jets are that bad. Few NFL teams cover college-style spreads, but a victory by at least three TDs seems not only plausible, but likely. If Patrick Mahomes can score 43 in the snow in Denver, he can score at least 45 against these Jets at home in balmy 50º weather. As for the Chiefs defense, the only fear about taking the over is they could shut the Jets out.

Yup.

Los Angeles Rams 5-2 (-3.5) @ Miami Dolphins 3-3 (46): Rams 24-21 Dolphins 28-17

Sunday, 1:00 PM, Hard Rock Stadium, Miami, FL (Weather: 40% storms; low 80s)

Keys: It’s Tua time! Do you know what that means? Stay the hell away from this game. Even the Rams don’t know what to expect from the man, the myth, the legend that is Tua Tagovailoa, so how can we? The Rams are tied for third in sacks (24) and give up the fewest ypa (6.5), so they’ll give the rookie some problems no matter how talented he is. However, Tua is used to the poor weather having played in the SEC, whereas the Rams are sun-kissed, which won’t be the case Sunday. Look for Tua to make a splash, get a few welcome gifts from Aaron Donald and cover the 3.5 points, but not win.

Tua Tagovaiola fumbled on his first play in the NFL and it looked like it m ight be a long day for the Dolphins until tiny-handed Jared Goff decided to show Tua what turning the ball over REALLY looks like. The Rams outgained the Dolphins 471:145 in total yards. The Rams had 31 first down to the Dolphins eight. The NFL is all about TOs, and the Rams comitted four in the first half alone, all on Jared Goff (2 INTs; 2 FUM), and so went the game.

Pittsburgh Steelers 6-0 *(+4) @ Baltimore Ravens 5-1 (48.5): Ravens 24-21 Steelers 28-24

Sunday, 1:00 PM, M&T Bank Stadium, Baltimore, MD (Weather: 50% rain; low 60s)

Keys: The Steelers remain the only undefeated team in the NFL and come into Baltimore to face a team about as equally-matched as any team in the NFL (PIT: 10.8 ppg point differential; BAL: 12.5 ppg point differential). The Steelers lead the NFL in sacks, but the Ravens aren’t far behind, tied for fifth. The Steelers throw over 50 fewer passing ypg than the Ravens, but they rush for 35 more ypg. The Steelers also give up the 2nd fewest rushing ypg, which will be the key to this game. With rain expected the Ravens will likely test the Steelers run defense, which could one of two ways, but neither of them point towards the Steelers losing by four or more points, despite the Ravens extra preparation time

This game was very similar to the LARvMIA game in that one team was thoroughly dominated, yet came away with the win because of their opponent's TOs. Baltimore outgained Pittsburgh by 226 yards, but also committed four TOs to the Streelers one, also all at the hands of former MVP QB Lamar Jackson (2 INTs; 2 FUM), which, again, was the key to this game, too.

Los Angeles Chargers 2-4 (-3.5) @ Denver Broncos 2-4 *(44.5): Chargers 24-21 Broncos 31-30

Sunday, 4:05 PM, Mile High Stadium, Denver, CO (Weather: Sunny; low 60s)

Keys: The aspect of the Chargers defense that is still elite should be able to get to Drew Lock rather easily and set the stage for a long game for the Broncos. It also sets the stage for a pretty low-scoring game, although, admittedly, I haven’t called either of these teams very accurately all season.

There have been a few teams this year that have gone the extra mile in looking for ways to lose games. The Atlanta Falcons. The Philadelphis Eagles. These Los Angeles Chargers. LA led 24-3 mid-way through the 3rd quarter and still managed to lose this game as Drew Lock threw three 4th-quarter TD passes to steal the game at home from the Chargers. Maybe it wasn't Philip Rivers' fault all those years, after all.

New Orleans Saints 4-2 (-4.5) @ Chicago Bears 5-2 (43.5): Saints 23-20 Saints 26-23 OT

Sunday, 4:25 PM, Soldier Field, Chicago, IL (Weather: Breezy; high 30s)

Keys: The Saints might want to get used to life without Michael Thomas, but they don’t have to worry about that against the Bears Sunday. They should be more worried about the wind and cold, as the 41-year old Drew Brees is struggling enough with the long ball, and by long I mean over 20 yards, although Brees’ ypa is 8.9 on the road, 1.2 ypa more than his season average. But those numbers are for the season so far, and the Saints haven’t seen weather close to this yet. Regardless, the Bears are frauds, although now that I say it, both teams only have two wins ATS on the season. However, if Kahlil Mack doesn’t go, it’s a wrap.

Chicago scored 10-unanswered points begininng with a drive that started with ten minuyes remianing in the 4th quarter and managed to turn a 23-10 drubbing into a tied game as time expired. No worries for Who Dey, the Saints recovered in OT, but it took the entire OT period to kick the go-ahead FG. These Bears just won't go away despite the fact they have no busniness winning many of these games. It must be that Big Nick energy.

San Francisco 49ers 4-3 (+3) @ Seattle Seahawks 5-1 *(54): Seahawks 28-27 Seahawks 37-27

Sunday, 4:25 PM, CenturyLink Field, Seattle, WA (Weather: Sunny; mid-50s)

Keys: The 49ers have recovered rather nicely from their gigantic road block of attrition a few weeks ago and are starting to look like a force again, but the Seahawks only blemish on the season came last week in a thrilling OT loss to the sprite Arizona Cardinals. Seahawks games combine for an average of 928.8 total yards and 62.5 points, so expect fireworks once again in the perfect fall weather.

PFM crushed the Top-5 games this week (5-0), which came mostly at the hands of the O/U, which until the last few weeks, has been a sore point for PFM in 2020. No matter, the ship has been righted, partly due to the expected fireworks coming from a mecicore defense (SEA) versus a defense missing several key Pro-Bowlers. Things didn't get any better for San Francisco as they lost Jimmy Garappolo and George Kittle to injury again during the game. It should noted the Seahawks led 30-7 one minute in to the 4th quarter, but we already knew about Nick Mullens and this Seahawks defense.

Dallas Cowboys 2-5 (+9.5) @ Philadelphia Eagles 2-4-1 (43): Eagles 24-13 Eagles 23-9

Sunday, 8:20 PM, Lincoln Financial Stadium, Philadelphia, PA (Weather: 20% rain; low 50s)

Keys: Whether it’s Andy Dalton or Ben DiNucci, the Cowboys are going to have a tough time protecting either one of them. Dallas is in shambles after the Dak Prescott injury, the mishandling of Ezekiel Elliot and a spat of injures and inconsistencies that have led to the Cowboys being one of the worst defenses in the NFL. The Eagles fell out of the nest long ago, but it’s about week-to-week match ups, and the Eagles got this one, even if it turns into a ground game.

Move along, nothing to see here, just a bad car accident between two terrible drivers on a side street almost no one drives down.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 5-2 (-10.5) @ New York Giants 1-6 *(46): Buccaneers 33-20 Buccaneers 25-23

Monday, 8:15 PM, MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ (Weather: Partly cloudy; high 30s)

Keys: Suffice it to say the Buccaneers are one of the top 3-5 best overall teams in the NFL and the Giants are one of the 3-5 worst. Both teams defend the run well, so it’ll likely be Tom Brady trying to keep pace in the MVP race while getting some revenge on the Giants, for whatever that’s worth.

This game was a questionable PI call on a two-point conversion from the Giants pontentiually tying the game late in the 4th quarter, but such is life for The Golden Boy, who the NFL has clearly claimed more of a stake to then the hapless New York Giants. The Giants actually led 17-15 heading into the 4th quarter, which should be troubling enough for Tampa Bay. I hope Brady enjoys Florida over the next few months as the state slides into covid oblivion post-election. Hey, after all, Brady is good friends with the pieces of shit that helped put us in this position in the first place. What does Brady care, he can just pack up and move to Brazil if shit hits the fan here. Oh wait...
